Body Removed for Exhibition

I’ve been thinking about the way contemporary conceptual jewellery is most likely to be seen in a gallery rather than being worn by someone. I’ve also been looking at the way museum exhibits are fixed, when the exhibits are removed, the empty hooks and stands remain, suggestive of that absent object. It’s these absences that have inspired my collection.

My collection is a series of display props, which refer to classical statues created to exemplify the ideal body. These metal structures operate like display hooks in a museum waiting for objects to display. They offer an invitation to discover how the body might fit the structures and how they position the wearer into mimicking one such perfect being.

Some pieces are designed to be worn under the clothes, they’re almost hidden and become merely the support for the posture of the wearer and allow the wearer to become the exhibit.
